- Hair transplants are applicable to general baldness (male pattern hair loss or female pattern hereditary hair loss), deficiency of eyebrows and eyelashes, female atrichia, scars, etc.
- You are advised to avoid strenuous exercise or the use of saunas after the surgery. However, the hair transplant procedure will not impact your ordinary daily activities, such as going to work or school.
- A study conducted by the medical staff in Kyungpook National University Hair Transplant Center reported that the average rate of settlement is 92%. However, the actual settlement rate may vary largely according to the surgical method used and the competency of the surgeon. Therefore, it is very important to receive the surgery from an experienced specialist.
- From 2 weeks to 1 month after the surgery, approximately 70 ~ 80% of the transplanted hairs will fall out. However, the follicles remain and after 3 or 4 months after the surgery the hairs grow. From that point on, the transplanted hair displays the same rate of growth characteristics as normal hair and remains permanently.
- Most patients experience only a slight pain when the local anesthesia is administered. If desired by the patient, a pain-free surgery is available. During the operation, patients will experience almost no pain.
- Most patients are satisfied after only a single surgery. However, if greater results are anticipated by having another surgery, then a second surgery may be administered and is conducted at least 10 months after the first surgery.
- In general, hair transplants in the front of the head take approximately 4 ~ 5 hours.
- Baldness usually occurs as the hair at the front of head becomes thinner. However, it is still unclear as to the reason why hair at the back of the head does not change. One convincing theory is that the hairs at the front of the head are of a different kind of those at the back of the head.
- Baldness actually does occur in women, and according to US statistics, 20 million women suffer from baldness. In women, baldness does not occur as a receding hairline like it does with men, instead women experience a decrease in hair thickness. However, the hereditary aspect or mechanism of baldness in women is the same as in men.
- There is no evidence to support the theory that wearing a wig accelerates baldness because it prevents air circulation in the scalp. In other words, wearing a wig does not affect baldness. However, wearing a wig may cause hair loss due to the part that the wig is attached to.
- The cost of the hair transplant surgery is determined according to the state of hair loss and the number of hairs that are needed to be transplanted. Also, the cost of the surgery is further decided by considering the economic situation of the patient. However, when compared to the cost of wearing and maintaining a wig or receiving medication for several years the surgery still turns out to be more economical.
